Cold Weather Grips War-torn Aleppo

Posted by on Friday, November 25, 2016

Winter is upon war-torn Aleppo.

Residents have been sifting through the rubble in search for wood for fire.

It is not only wood. Residents are looking for anything at all that will burn. In some cases looking through neighborhoods that have been destroyed by airstrikes.

While daytime high's rise to 15 degrees, overnight lows are dropping to minus 5.

300,000 residents living in the city have been under siege by President Bashar al-Assad's troops.

Aleppo has a cool steppe climate. The mountain series that run along the Mediterranean coast, namely Mount Alawites and Mount Amanus, largely block the effects of the Mediterranean on climate.

Those who can’t afford wood to heat their homes are staying indoors under numerous layers of clothing and blankets.
