Catastrophic Flooding in Houston

Harvey has caused catastrophic and life-threatening flooding in southeastern Texas, and flash flood emergencies are in effect for portions of this area.

The National Hurricane Centre is warning people to "not attempt to travel in the affected area if you are in a safe place and do not drive into flooded roadways."

This morning rescue workers in Houston are continuing to search for residents who remain trapped in their homes by rising floodwaters.

Overnight there were more than 1,000 people rescued.

So far there have been two people killed in the storm, however that number is expected to rise.

A woman who drove her vehicle into flood water in Houston and a man was killed by a fire in Rockport.

Florida, Virginia and New York are sending emergency workers and equipment to Texas. 

250,000 customers lost electricity because of the storm.
