Candlemas Day

Posted by on Wednesday, February 1, 2017

Candlemas Day is a Christian holiday commemorating the presentation of Jesus at the Temple. It falls on February 2, which is traditionally the 40th day of the Christmas-Epiphany season.

There is a poem that pertains to Candlemas Day and the weather it reads:

"If Candlemas be fair and bright,
Winter has another flight.
If Candlemas brings clouds and rain,
Winter will not come again."
In Canada and the United States the celebration of Candlemas has largely been replaced by Groundhog Day.
