Burgeo Cut Off Until Friday

Posted by on Tuesday, October 11, 2016

The town of Burgeo on Newfoundland's southwest coast will be cut off from the rest of the province until at least Friday.

On Monday the area was lashed with rainfall totals of at least 159.8 mm. However Environment Canada said, "data became suspect after 6:00 pm GMT on Monday so rainfall amounts might be significantly higher." There was also a peak wind gust of 128 km/h.

Portions of route 480, which is the Burgeo highway, collapsed and washed out from the severe weather.
