Red and White Mushroom on Green Grass during Daytime

Back in the 1980's, a team led by James Anderson of the University of Toronto found a mushroom in upper Michigan that covered 91 acres of forest.

The mushroom is 2,500 years old.

Recently Anderson and his co-authors provided an update...

The fungus could actually be much older. Also it has grown in size to 173 acres and weighs 400,000 kilograms.

If the fungi's DNA maintenance processes were studied we could gain insights into cancer research.
