Alaska's Bogoslof Volcano erupted on Sunday, sending a plume of ash at least 10,000 metres into the air.

As a result, it triggered the highest aviation alert, scientists say.

The Bogoslof Volcano in the Aleutian Islands erupted at 2:16 p.m. Sunday and the eruption lasted 55 minutes.

Bogoslof Island or Agasagook Island is the summit of a submarine stratovolcano located at the southern edge of the Bering Sea, 35 miles northwest of Unalaska Island of the Aleutian Island chain.
