A Chilling Date in Weather History

It was back on January 20, 1954 that the temperature plunged too -56.5°C in Rogers Pass Montana.

That remains the record low for the 48 contiguous states.

The average low for January is -10.1°C.

It will not be nearly as severe today with sunny skies expected and a high of -3°C.

Rogers Pass rises 5,610 feet above sea level and is located on the Continental Divide in the U.S. state of Montana. The pass is adjacent to Helena National Forest and is traversed by Montana Highway 200.
