The U.S. Coast Guard says that nearly 90,000 gallons of oil has spilled from the Royal Dutch Shell Pipeline into the Gulf of Mexico.

The company has shut down all wells flowing to its Brutus platform, federal officials said. The source of the discharge is believed to be secured.

Shell said that there are no injuries from the incident and that they have mobilized response vessels, including aircraft, to see if it could recover the spilled oil.

The spill was discovered south-southwest of New Orleans.

By this morning the spill was contained.
