On 9 November, a two-car Bombardier CR4000 tram operated by Tramlink running from New Addington to Wimbledon derailed and overturned on the approach to a junction close to Sandilands tram stop in the London Borough of Croydon.

There were seven fatalities with at least 51 other people injured.

The accident took place at the beginning of rush hour, and the tram was "crowded" when it toppled over.
