6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes off Coast of Alaska

A 6.6 magnitude earthquake has struck 107.8 km west-southwest of Adak, Alaska.

It happened on Wednesday at 12:56 pm local time.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 31 km.

There was no tsunami threat.

The area marks the region where the Pacific plate subducts into the mantle beneath the North America plate.
