6.3 Magnitude Earthquake off New Zealand Coast

There was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday morning.

It occurred at 3:46 am local time at a depth of 10 km.

It was centered 800.0 km northeast of Whitianga, New Zealand.

There was no tsunami threat and no injuries were reported.

The eastern margin of the Australia plate is one of the most seismically active areas of the world due to high rates of convergence between the Australia and Pacific plates.
