Fort Niagara is a fortification originally built to protect the interests of New France in North America. It is located near Youngstown, New York, on the eastern bank of the Niagara River at its mouth, on Lake Ontario.

The structure is almost 300 years old and not despite standing the test of time, may soon be threatened in an unsuspecting way.

Rising waters along the shore of Lake Ontario could compromise the stability of the castle.

In fact on Monday a part of the grounds slipped into the water.

The Lake Ontario basin recorded 54 percent more precipitation than average in April.
