Icy conditions caused by freezing rain cause several accidents including a 30-car pileup in Portland, Oregon on Friday.

The crash began around 2:30 a.m. local time and involved 30 vehicles, including semi trucks. A semi also flew over an embankment. The driver and passenger only received minor injuries.

A TriMet bus was called in to shelter stranded drivers in the cold.

Freezing rain began falling in the Portland area after midnight Friday and persisted into the early morning hours.

Freezing rain changed to rain by Friday morning.
