A buoy located in the Southern Ocean has measured a monster 20 meter wave, nearly six stories high.

Back on May 20th the wave was observed by the first buoy to be placed in the Southern Ocean.

The wave was from a powerful storm that was in the area at that time.

The wave was about 650 kilometers south of New Zealand.

Since the winds were not blocked by any land features, the wave was able to grow to such a height.
